Pesticide License Exam

— Written By

North Carolina Cooperative Extension in cooperation with NCDA & CS will hold a pesticide licensing exam in Macon County on Wednesday, June 10. The exam will be held at the Macon County Cooperative Extension Center, 193 Thomas Heights Road, and will begin at 1:00 pm. Call the Extension Center at 828-349-2049 to reserve a space for the exam. There is a limited amount of space.

The cost of the core exam is $50, and each category exam is $20. You should arrive by 12:30 to allow time for sign in and payment. You may pay by cash but a check is preferred. When an individual passes the exam, he will submit a yearly license fee of $75.00 to activate the license.

Those planning to test should purchase a core study manual and a study manual for the category they will be testing in. Study materials can be purchased online at:

We will provide a short review of the material the morning before the exam. We will begin the review at 8:30 am. Because it will be difficult to cover all material in 3-4 hours, it is important to study the core and category manuals prior to testing.
All persons purchasing or applying restricted use pesticides or applying any pesticide for a fee must have a valid North Carolina Pesticide License. A pesticide license can be obtained by passing an exam in the appropriate license category. License exams are administered by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
