Chatham County’s 4-H poultry team “The Chatham County Peeps” competed Friday, July 19, in the 2019 Avian Bowl at NC State University. The team consists of teenage members that learn a variety of information and facts about poultry both inside and out. Focus is placed on scientific knowledge of poultry along with studies in care of poultry and raising your own flock.

The team won 2nd place overall after a very close competition. Only one question separated the Peeps team from the 1st place winners!

The Peeps prepared for the event by several weeks of study and review of the competition material and practicing the quiz bowl “Jeopardy” style of Q & A.

The team is grateful to the Silk Hope Ruritans and Mr. Neill Lindley for allowing them to meet in the Silk Hope Community Center several times for group practice.

This isn’t the first time we have heard about The Chatham County Peeps. The team won 1st place at the North Carolina State Poultry Judging competition last year.

Team members include Samantha Andrews, Emily Stecher, Tristin Elkins, and Gage Lindley, all dedicated young people that have been an active part of Chatham County 4-H for several years.
