Currituck County 4-H Sharpshooters team members Bode Fredrick and Kaitlyn Carey were two of the four  members of the NC 4-H State Rifle Team that competed at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island Nebraska, June 20-25, 2021.

The 2021 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships consist of competitive tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills. North Carolina 4-H was one of 32 states with teams competing in one or more of the above disciplines and the NC 4-H State Rifle team was one of 21 competing in the rifle competition. North Carolina was the overall Grand Reserve Champion of the competition and the Rifle Team contributed to that ranking with an 8th place finish in the 3 part rifle competition.

Kaitlyn and Bode competed at the NC 4-H National Team tryouts and were selected as alternates to the 2019 team, and as members of the 2020 team that was unable to compete due to Covid-19, and as members of the 2021 team. They devoted countless hours practicing and training with their Coach’s Kathy Melton, Malcolm Murray, Jason Fredrick and Eric Brinkley here in Currituck, and they also traveled to Ellerbe, NC each month for NC team practice, training, and instruction. Their dedication and commitment to excellence was key to their success-Congratulations Bode and Kaitlyn!
