NC AgVentures Extension program received a 3-year grant to expand from 18 to  46 counties. We are very excited that we will be able to reach so many more farms, but to accommodate the increase in applications we are upgrading our online application and review system. We are not quite up and running, but we know you are ready to get started!

Below is a sample application for community project grants to help you prepare your project proposal.

Type your answers in a Word Doc, Google Doc or Note Pad. When the online system is ready you can cut and paste your answers into the online application. 

Sample Application for Community Agricultural Project Grants

Community grants are a collaborative project that will directly benefit 3 or more family farms in the community. Examples:

  • A Livestock Association could purchase portable corral equipment for members to share/rent.
  • The local farmers market could get a grant to expand or update the facility.
  • Extension Agent works with farmers on a research project.

Extension agents, farming associations, local schools, churches and civic groups are eligible to apply for a community grant.

  • A community grant should directly benefit 3 or more family farms
  • Based in one of the 46 counties.
  • Three of the growers must have a tobacco connection
  • No limit on the size of the collaboration
  • May include farms in other counties

APPLICATION

Name of Organization

In what county will the project be based? (It must be one of the 46 eligible counties.)

Who will be the project manager?

Will the project manager receive payment for managing the project. if yes, estimate the payment amount.

Has the organization/group received previous grant funds from any source? If yes, please provide more information.

  • Who awarded the grant?
  • What year was the grant received?
  • What was the award amount?
  • What was accomplished?

The grant funds are taxable income, please identify who will pay the tax liability in the following year.

Will the grant project benefit current/former tobacco growers?

Will the Community organization receive an increase in income or new income from the project? If yes, please describe how the income will be determined. Please estimate how much income the organization will receive?

What resources will you use to pay the 15% cost share and/or all remaining expenses (loan, donation, other grants, organization fees, other?)

Describe how the project will benefit the community, provide some examples.

Provide a quarterly timeline of steps to implement your project. (Use bullet points or short phrases to list the steps.)

Budget: List the total cost to complete the entire project (include equipment, equipment rental, contractors, materials and supplies.)

Impacts:

Please list at least 3 farmers that will be participating in the project this year.
