On July 16th and 17th our Macon County 4-H Livestock Judging Team joined Henderson and Buncombe County’s teams at a judging clinic held at the WNC Livestock Center in Canton, NC. This clinic was led by Brent Jennings, our 4-H Livestock Specialist at NC State, who traveled here from Raleigh, NC to give our kids some extra preparation for the Livestock Judging Competition held at NC State at the end of this month.
On the first day of the clinic, the kids refined their note-taking, judged a class of Boer goats, and practiced giving reasons. On the second day, we traveled to Flat Rock, NC to judge two classes of pigs: breeding gilts and market hogs. From there, we went up to a farm in Leicester, NC to judge two classes of sheep: breeding ewes and market lambs.
Our team had lots of fun learning from Brent and getting to connect with kids from other counties!
