Macon County Summer Canning Classes

(Updated: Aug. 31, 2022, 11:43 a.m.)
Very little compares to the rewarding feeling I get when I prepare my family a meal made from food that I’ve canned the previous season.  My kids love having green beans that tastes summer fresh in the winter.  And then there’s the salsa, it just tastes better than store bought.    In addition to having fresh tasting food year ‘round, canning and preserving food can be a way to save money on your grocery bill.  If you would like to learn more about the canning process, including pressure canning and water bath canning, the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Macon County Center will be hosting several classes in August and September.  These classes are for the beginner but are open to anyone that would like to learn more about the safe methods of canning.  The cost is $10.  Call Kim Terrell, Family and Consumer Science Agent, for more information and to register at 828-349-2047.
