Upcoming Macon County Bee School - Registration Is Now Closed

The Macon County Beekeepers Association will be holding a Beginning Beekeeping School from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday March 12th and Saturday March 19th  at the Macon Extension Center located on 193 Thomas Heights Rd. Franklin NC.

This school is a 2-day basic course for beginner beekeepers or for anyone desiring to learn more about keeping bees.

Topics covered include:

Hive components
  • Types of honeybees
  • Locating and setting up a bee yard
  • Swarming and how to manage it
  • Working with bees
  • Annual management in a calendar year
  • Bee biology of a queen worker & drone
  • Products of a hive and why bees make them
  • Installing bees: nuc, package and swarm
Cost is $75.00 per person which includes a book and Bee Club dues for the year. On the last day, participants will drive to a bee yard and go into the hives with State Inspector Lewis Cauble. Protective gear will be on hand weather permitting. For more information e-mail maconcobeeclub@gmail.com.
