Intro to Beekeeping Class 2026

Are you interested in becoming a Beekeeper?  Macon County Beekeepers Association will hold their annual Bee School, with two days in the classroom and one day at a local bee yard.

The classes will be held  Saturday, February 21 and Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Macon County Center, 193 Thomas Heights Rd., Franklin. The Apiary visit will be Saturday, March 21.

The cost to participate in the Bee School is $50.00, this includes a book, and Bee Club dues for the year, a $25.00 (non refundable) fee is required to sign up for the class, and that will go toward your $50.00 cost of the class.  Class space is limited to 50 students.

Interested in beekeeping or want to learn more about bees?

Macon County Beekeepers Association is conducting a two-day class that will focus on topics for the beginning backyard beekeeper.

Questions answered such as:
  • How and where to set up my hives?
  • How often do I feed/tend to them?
  • What should I expect in the first year?
  • Will I get honey from my bees, starting out?
  • What are the costs involved?
  • More topics on the care and maintenance of your hive will be discussed.

Plus hands-on demos with the students at a local bee yard will be held in March.

Cost is $50 per person, which includes the book “Beekeeping for Dummies” and one-year dues to the Macon County Beekeepers Association.

Registration fee is $25 (non-refundable), which guarantees a spot. Space is limited to 50 students.
