Macon, Jackson and Swain County 4-H’ers went gem mining at Mason Mountain Mine on Tuesday, June 13. Each 4-H'er got a bucket of dirt to sift through and mine for gems. No one struck it super rich, but lots of great gems were found and a great time was had.
After gem mining the group went to the Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum in downtown Franklin for a guided tour of the museum. Volunteers from the museum opened the museum up special for 4-H. The kids, parents, and volunteers enjoyed the tour very much. Thank you to Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum for a great tour and sharing your knowledge.
