Local beekeepers in cooperation with the Macon County Beekeepers Association are conducting a class for beginning beekeepers.
The class is two days in the classroom and one day at a local bee yard.
Topics to be Covered:
- Hive Components
- Types of Bees
- Locating and setting up your bee yard
- Swarming and how to manage it
- Working with your bees
- Annual management – calendar year
- Biology of individual bees (what makes a queen a queen?)
- Products of the hives and why bees make them
- Installing bees: nuc, package or swarm
Guest Instructors include:
· Bob Binnie (Blue Ridge Honey Co.),
· Lewis Cauble (NC State Bee Inspector),and
· Bobby Chassion (NE Georgia Beekeeper Assoc., Master Beekeeper)
Costis $75 per person which includes the book “Beekeeping for Dummies” and dues to the Macon County Beekeepers Association for a year. Registration fee is $25, which guarantees you a spot. Space is limited to 50 students.
Dates for 2024 are February 24th and March 2nd. Location is the NC Cooperative Extension-Macon County Center, 193 Thomas Heights Rd, Franklin, NC 28734
Registration is at 8 am, class runs 9am-3pm with lunch break.
